ReplyDeleteSex Addiction
http://www.medicinenet.com/sexual_addiction/article.htm
I believe this source is credible because it comes from a medical site and offers the doctors and psychiatrists definition of what sexual addiction is.
Internet Addiction
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/10/05/depression.adhd.internet.addiction/index.html
I believe this source is credible because it comes from a CNN article. Cnn has people who are designated to do research on a field and they usually do the research and present it from a subjective standpoint with no biases.

ReplyDeleteNicotine Addiction:
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4753
This website is credible because it is written by the American Heart Association, an organization that is known for advising individuals on healthy living and well-being. This article also provides links that are related to smoking, such as on issues that have to do with quitting and also the risk of other health problems associated with smoking. Pretty well-known are their endorsements of cherios cereal.
Shopping Addiction:
http://www.indiana.edu/~engs/hints/shop.html
This link is credible because the information is compiled by a professor from Indiana University. The article contains information on shopping addiction, its symptoms, and how to treat it. Links are also provided such as "Stopping overshopping" and "Debtors Anonymous"
By the way, the computers in the lab of the HSSB would not let me copy and paste, so I had to manually type in the web addresses into the blog, so if any of the links do not work, please send me an email (taimaq@gmail.com) and I will repost the links again

ReplyDelete"Heroin Consumption, Prices and Addiction: Evidence from Self-Reported Panel Data"
by Anne Line Bretteville-Jensen and Erik Biørn. The Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Vol. 105, No. 4 (Dec., 2003), pp. 661-679
.
This source comes from the The Scandinavian Journal of Economics, and as it is a scholarly journal and fairly recent (2003), it has much credibility.
"Understanding Hoarding Behaviors in the Elderly"
by Mildred O. Hogstel. The American Journal of Nursing, Vol. 93, No. 7 (Jul., 1993), pp. 42-45
Published by: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
.
This article, on compulsive hoarders, comes from The American Journal of Nursing, and once again, as it is a scholarly journal, has a great deal of credibility.

ReplyDeletei found it interesting how people could be addicted to simple things we use every day like an i pod and reading.
http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/detail?vid=7&hid=12&sid=231a7004-8e35-4102-ae2f-ec2b0f08ff48%40sessionmgr13&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZQ%3d%3d#db=a9h&AN=47361571

Shopping Spree or Addiction
ReplyDeletehttp://www.webmd.com/mental-health/features/shopping-spree-addiction
This particular subject is very interesting to me because in a point in my life I was a shopaholic and in this article, it discusses all of stages I went through.
Heroin Addiction
http://www.heroinaddiction.net/
While reading about all of the types of addictions, when I read about heroin it automatically grabbed my attention and I had an interest in learning and researching about it.
--Both of the sites are credible sources because it had a lot of the points that we discussed in class, such as ending in .net/.edu, there was not any advertisement floating around the page, and there are links that support the information.
The first source i went to, was actually a book on the web titled "Caught in the Net: How to Recognize Internet Addiction and a Winning Strategy for Recovery"
ReplyDeletehttp://books.google.com/books?id=kfFk8-GZPD0C&printsec=frontcover&dq=internet+addiction&source=bl&ots=gBiSFgORe2&sig=HgLouc5SfTrAcyYgVmnu1UjcVkw&hl=en&ei=C0lnS8_aJ5LuswOkm7SdAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=10&ved=0CCwQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false
it seems a credible source because it is actually written by a doctor. Doctor Kimberly S. Young, and even though i didn't actually read the whole book, throughout the book her concern over this addiction is big and she expresses her concern throughout the book.
http://www.indiana.edu/~engs/hints/shop.html
The next article i found to be credible is one talking about shopping addiction, it goes in and describes shopping addiction and at the end of the article it has fine print where it states "Information on this page is based upon many journal articles found in Indiana University's Medlines (Ovid) system. "

This article, an article printed in the New York Times, presents a real-life story of a woman convicted to one year in prison as a result of a shopping addiction. What is Sexual Addiction?
ReplyDeletehttp://psychcentral.com/lib/2006/what-is-sexual-addiction/
This source seems credible because it is written by someone who has a PhD and it gives credit to the people that contributed to the article. It was last updated in December of 2006, so it recent enough for it to be accurate.
What is Compulsive Gambling?
http://addictions.about.com/od/compulsivegambling/a/defgambling.htm
This source is written by a psychologist with a PhD, and, as it says in her biography, "...with extensive experience in research, practice and teaching in the field of addictions and concurrent disorders." This article was updated last February, and she has three different book sources she used as reference.

ReplyDelete1. Cocaine addiction
http://www.jstor.org/stable/2875724?&Search=yes&term=cocaine&term=addiction&list=hide&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dcocaine%2Baddiction%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26wc%3Don&item=6&ttl=2733&returnArticleService=showArticle
Main reason why i believe this is a valid source is because it comes from JSTOR.ORG. a Non-profit organization brings forth articles from legitimate journals from scholars around the world. The article is also published by the "American Association for the Advancement of Science" also known as the A.A.A.S.
2. Tobacco addiction
http://www.jstor.org/stable/3559661?&Search=yes&term=death&term=tobacco&list=hide&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dtobacco%2Bdeath%26gw%3Djtx%26prq%3Dwhat%2Bis%2Btobacco%26Search%3DSearch%26hp%3D25%26wc%3Don&item=18&ttl=38190&returnArticleService=showArticle
As the previous article, this one is also from JSTOR.ORG. Furthermore, this article is published by "Blackwell Publishing" for the Royal Statistical Society knows as the R.S.S. a professional body for statisticians in the United Kingdom.

ReplyDelete1. Internet Addiction
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/internet_cybersex_addiction.htm#authors
The reason why I found this article credible is because it has accurate information and I noticed the authors and their level of education, which were Master's, at the end of the article.
2. Food Addiction
http://addictions.about.com/od/lesserknownaddictions/a/foodadd.htm
The reason why I found this article credible is because at the end of the article, it states resources from research based facilities. Also, I like how the article is formatted into separate topics and is in a academic tone.

ReplyDeleteI found a website on marijuana addiction. The website address is: http://www.marijuana-addiction.net/ This source seems to be credible because it has a professional appearance, the company is named "Spencer Recovery Inc.," and it has link to a variety of recovery centers and hotlines for help and information on this addiction. It also has individual web pages within the web site for extra focus on topics from effects, dangers, treatment, etc.
I also found a website on ecstasy addiction. The website is: http://www.addictionsearch.com/treatment_articles/article/ecstasy-addiction-abuse-and-treatment_31.html This website seems credible because there are recovery treatment links and numbers for hotlines throughout the site. The site I found was last modified in 2007, but the site was last updated in October of 2008 so it seems pretty recent. It also includes references at the end of the site so it seems legitimate.

Tobacco Addiction
ReplyDeletehttp://www.drugabuse.gov/researchreports/nicotine/nicotine.html
This website seemed credible for it is put by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which has an entire website based on nicotine abuse and addiction. I became interested in this addiction because it is a huge problem in the United States.
Shopping Spree, or Addiction?
http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/features/shopping-spree-addiction.
I decided to choose this article because It seems to be very reliable since it is from a WebMD which is for a healthier life style website. This addiction was interesting to me because I love to shop and want to find out what are symptoms know to determine who is addicted to shopping.
Janette
I found the two articles. One is about caffeine addiction and it is from a scholarly journal and the other article is about gambling addiction and it is from a scholarly journal as well.
