This blog is an informal online location to post class news, relevant information, and helpful links for students in my ACE Writing class. Please note that this is not a thorough online representation of the class; instead, this site is simply an opportunity to enhance it a bit.
Alcohol and Nicotine addictions are two completely different addictions; however, the physical harm from compulsive abuse of either is one of the biggest similarities between the two addictions.

ReplyDeleteSex addiction and Internet addiction are both questioned to whether they can actually be considered an addiction, but they also lead to other addictions that make these addictions similar.
While addictions and obsessions/compulsions do have similar qualities making them seem like the same thing, an obsession/compulsion can result coming from a mental matter, while addictions incorporate obsessions/compulsions in their mental and/or physical sense.

ReplyDeleteBeing addicted to meth has negative affects when it comes to family because it causes the person to become violent when deprived of it and being addicted to shopping has negative affects on credit because it causes people to max out there credit cards but a similarity between the both of them is that they both give you a temporary gratification but its also followed by a low.
Internet and gambling share social isolation, denial of one's addiction, but both can be overcome with counseling and effort of the addict.

ReplyDeleteWhile both are undoubtedly capable of having devastating effects on the user and share some similarities, the term addiction, in its application to both behavioral and substance abuses, is flawed in its use as an umbrella term for two distinctly different phenomena.
Like many well known addictions or obsessions, a compulsive shopping disorder can financially hurt someone in contrast to a working addiction syndrome that is building toward typically a financial goal.
ReplyDeleteCocaine and heroin affect the human body in similar ways such as: they both cause chemical changes in one’s brain, change an individual’s physical appearance, users who inject have a high risk of being infected with HIV, and they are both highly addictive. However, they both have their differences as well, for example, female heroin users may have spontaneous abortions and cocaine users lose their appetite due to this they tend to lose weight over time.

ReplyDeleteThesis-Major qualities
Heroin causes a powerful sense of Euphoria, Alternate alert and drowsy states, and extreme weakness in the muscles. Nicotine, on the other hand causes increases stimulation, relaxation, sharpness, and raises metabolism. Even though Heroin is Illegal and Tobacco is not, both are extremely addictive, almost impossible to withdraw from, highly expensive, and cause super detrimental effects to the users such as Lung Cancer and Pneumonia respectively.
Exercise addiction is when the individual follows a strict work-out schedule alone while on the other hand sex addiction is compulsive sexual thoughts and acts, health risks in these two addictions will not stop the addicted from continuing with their obsession and may interfere with their daily responsibilities.
